Keep it in perspective...

I read today's story on CNN about how Gretzky was saying the Canadian team wasn't playing with enough passion. (I also dutifully note that this story was a couple days late, and likely only made the CNN main page because of the Great One's recent scandal implications. Yet I digress) While I agree with him to a certain extent, I think the Men's team has WAY too much pressure on them this year to bring home the Gold.

Don't think for one second that I don't believe we have the best hockey players in the world. I think we have a team that is fully capable of beating anyone out there. The problem is that so do other countries. Men's hockey is so unbelievably rich in talent for about half a dozen countries that any of them could take the gold without surprising anyone. The "problem" with Canada is that we tend to think that the gold is rightfully ours. If we don't win the gold, why bother going?

I think we need someone to step up and give an Esposito-esque rant sometime in the near future. I feel that we, the hockey fans, have no right to complain about the team losing a couple games while getting the rust out.

If we get shutout 4-0 or something like that in a playoff game, then it's a different story.
