Mobility Returning?

My ankle injury may not be as bad as it originally appeared to be. I have a funny feeling the bone chips in my ankle were from general wear and tear and not this specific injury. Also, I can feel the cast loosening from around my leg as the swelling subsides. Couple that with the fact that I can move my ankle in three directions so far. Tilting the foot forwards and back doesn't really hurt that much, but then again, I couldn't really do that in the first place. Supinating my foot and pronating it are another story. Pronation doesn't hurt to much right now, but I'm not really pushing it. Supination is still fairly painful to try, but I can at least get a little movement before the pain starts. In my mind, that's a happy state as I couldn't move it a little bit yesterday before it started to hurt like hell.

Out of all of this, I'm really wondering what the hell caused the ankle to swell as immediately as it did when the injury occured. I mean, I heard (and felt) the POP, looked down, and BOOM - tennis ball ankle. I suppose it was the instantaneous release of fluid to some subcutaneous region, but where the hell did the fluid come from? Did I herniate a ligament which allowed sinovial fluid to escape? Can a ligament be herniated? If I did, did it seal itself up again and begin to refill the joint? Did walking yesterday hurt so much because it was joing rubbing on joint when walking?

As you can see, many questions and no answers before I talk to a doctor in the near future. I think I might go down earlier than Sunday (when the doc told me to come down). In my mind, the injury isn't half as bad as it appeared to be yesterday on the X-ray.

If nothing else comes from this, my blog will never see such activity again!
